This is my best beloved daughter doing her thing…
what I should like to know is if this is derivative or her original work (I suspect she was put up to it by her elder sister, the eponymous “sdkjackson” who marked my linkback down as spam!)
The making of "Lostkisses"
I thought it was time for something to break up all the wordy posts I make ;)
I was going to blog about this as a book, it caught my eye in a Somerset bookshop. Then last night I noticed it is also a BBC2 broadcast. I settled down to watch it, and I have found an excerpt which you can view from YouTube here. I’m not especially taken with his style, and this is going to be no rival for Galbreith’s “Ascent of Man”, but it does make for informative viewing. There can be no doubt America features very largely in world history, nor that this appears to be a quite a turning point in history. There is a lot of debate that we may have reached “peak oil”, Global warming can no longer be denied, the global economy has never been so volatile in my lifetime, and we have a new level of conflict between Muslim extremists and the West.
This program seems to take a more considered view, with a perspective spanning perhaps two hundred years back (the whole of American history basically) and extrapolating a few decades into the future, or at least offering perspectives thereon. In the opening episode I was struck by how key water will be to the global future. A resource like that tends to be overlooked, but take it away and everything falls apart. I had no idea the Hoover Dam was such a massive feat, nor what it achieved for America. For that alone I was glad to have watched the program, and I expect I’ll watch the rest of the series. I’m still highly sceptical that either Los Angeles or Las Vegas will become model cities for green living and water conservation though!
Well…. for the purposes of illustration, a pair of “wenches”? (Suggestions for a collective noun in the comments please!).
My site of the day today!
*sigh* well this WAS going to be a more exciting post than it is turning out…
You see I heard of this innovative new dictionary site from the Indie today, which in it’s online incarnation seems to be throwing out early editions with ‘net related news stories a lot these days. Anyway, the concept is a simple but sort of fun one. People make short clips offering the definition for a word. Of course I had to go and check for Didactic (going to put definition in the banner when I get around to it by the way) and lo and behold, no one had done it yet. So, the plan was that I might record same on my webcam (and no doubt make a cheeky plug for the blog in closing)…. But three hours later and WILL my laptop mic record, NO it will not! Most frustrating! I’ll try to keep an eye out if a definition DOES crop up, might still be worth a link in the blog, but for the moment no video post (though I may browse the site a bit and there’s still a chance I’ll post one after this for entertainment if I find a worthy word!).
It’s like I got all ready for a performance though, then it was cancelled! I could have persisted and tried to bluetooth my V3 or got out my old Sony digicam, but I can only take so much geek torture, and the thing is I know the internal mic ought to work because I’ve used it with a chat program in AV mode before…
Oh yeah - and if it SHOULD be a reader of this post that submits a didactic definition to the site… Any chance of plugging the blog at the end? hehe…
So I was googling about and I came across this video - so I could not resist posting it here (although it really has nothing to do with me per se!). If you want to read the background to it then look here. If you listen to the audio it will give you the definition for Didactic too. I taught myself a lesson here too, because I found the site and spent a good deal of time getting the video clip as a file - was just about to upload it to YouTube and then find it is already there! Next time I shall check first!
